Downton Distillery
The Story behind Explorer’s Explorer’s Gin celebrates the voyage of Sir Walter Raleigh to the New World in 1584, whilst living in Downton. Our logo is the ‘Rose of the winds’ the compass that he would have used to navigate the Atlantic. The golden lines represent both celestial star and map navigation lines and the bottle colour is two tone symbolising the depths to the surface of the ocean. Western red cedar our core botanical came back from the New World, where it was known as the ‘tree of life,’ a revered plant. The Gin Contemporary London Dry I Profile: Citrus / Herbaceous / Spice I 44% ABV I Heart Cut I English Wheat I Alpine Juniper A robust spirit winning a masters medal as a sipping gin. Nose Juniper and citrus notes lead to a complex layering of aromas. There is a subtle bouquet of pineapple (red cedar), spice and anise. Palate Juniper appears at the forefront replaced by the bright bold citrus flavours, pink and sichuan pepper provide the warmth with verbena adding the creamy textures. As the sichuan oils oxidise on your tongue it causes the mouth to cool providing the subtle mint notes which enhance the tail notes of fennel and liquorice providing the final flourish that lingers in the mouth. Mouthfeel Smooth, rounded full bodied, with a luxurious texture.
